The St Kilda Football Club will visit Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance during February as part of the 2012 Australia Post AFL Community Camps.
The entire Saints Player List and Coaching Staff will spend two days participating in community activities including hospital, cultural, aged care and primary school visits. In addition they will conduct an NAB AFL Auskick Superclinic for local school children and host an open training session.
Gippsland as a region has strong St Kilda links, with current players Brendon Goddard, Jason Gram, Sean Dempster, Dean Polo and rookie Jordan Staley either coming from or having spent time living there.
For Saints Senior Coach Scott Watters, who has participated in several AFL Community Camps, knows first-hand the impact such a visit can have throughout a community.
“This Australia Post AFL Community Camp in Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance provides a great opportunity for the Saints to further promote the game of football in an area we have a rich history with,” explained Watters.
“The Gippsland region has produced many outstanding players for the St Kilda Football Club and I know the players are looking forward to this Community Camp.”
Not only is the Australia Post AFL Community Camp an opportunity to promote the sport in regional Victoria but continues St Kilda’s focus on community engagement.
“Getting involved with the community, particularly at the grassroots level, is very important to the Saints. We want to connect with as many footy fans as possible during our two day stay in the area,” concluded Watters.
